Advicor

Advicor may be prescribed to you if your low density lipoprotein (LDL) and high density lipoprotein (HDL) levels are improper. Advicor will lower your LDL and raise your HDL to their suitable levels. The generic ingredients for Advicor are Lovastatin and Niacin.

Maintaining a healthy diet and exercise may be sufficient to reduce your cholesterol. If these methods do not work then Advicor may be prescribed for you. Advicor is not a substitute for appropriate diet and exercise, so be sure to combine all three in order for Advicor to work properly. Diabetics may want to avoid Advicor because it can raise blood sugar levels.

Advicor should not be taken on an empty stomach. Take it with a small snack before heading off to bed. Do not chew or break up the tablet, simply swallow it whole. Should you miss at least a week of Advicor for any reason check with your physician before going back on it. In some instances, going off of Advicor for a week at a time may mean that you will need to slowly build up your dosage again. If by chance you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Do not take two doses at one time. If you remember that you had forgotten to take it the night before and it is almost time for your next dose, simply just take the next dosage and skip the one you had forgotten.

Consult with your doctor if you experience any unusual feelings because they may be side effects. You may experience vomiting, diarrhea, back pain, muscle pain, weakness, rash, abdominal pain or headaches. Other possible side effects may include anxiety, fainting, gas, chest pains, joint pain, cramps, runny nose, memory loss or dry mouth. Other symptoms may occur so definitely get in contact with your doctor should anything arise.

Do not take Advicor if you have allergies to Lovastatin or Niacin, have liver disease, arterial bleeding, or an ulcer. If you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding, do not take Advicor.

Liver problems may arise once you start taking Advicor. Before prescribing it to you, your doctor will test your liver. After being on Advicor, your doctor will test your liver every six to twelve weeks for the first six months. Those who choose to drink alcohol on a regular basis must use extra caution when taking Advicor since it could increase the possibility of getting liver disease.

Be sure to store Advicor at room temperature.

Advicor is not recommended for children.
